ICFP

ICFP is a structured tool that helps capture and measure how designers organize and connect ideas during metaphorical displacement (when ideas shift from one domain to another).

I — Issue

The keyword used in the designer’s domain vocabulary.
In the experiment, the metaphor topic A (example: “water”) is set as the Issue (I).

C — Concept

The descriptive idea shown in text.
In the experiment, four metaphor rules (property, form, function, structure) are used as Concept (C) types.

F — Form

The image or visual created from the keyword.
Also called the property image (F).
Used as a reference when designers make connections.

P — Preference

A rating from 1 to 5 showing how much participants prefer or select that idea.
Shows which I–C–F combinations are stronger or more meaningful to designers.
